This brew was originally developed by Tony Simmons of the Brick Oven Brewing Co. in Pagosa Springs, CO and chosen by a panel of judges as the brew to commemorate the 300th Anniversary of Benjamin Franklin's birth. In keeping with the goal of producing a beer with ties to Franklin's time, this light brown ale uses copious quantities of corn and a bit of molasses, both common ingredients used to bolster the early colonies' slim supply of malted barley. It also uses some well toasted malts to mimic the deeper colors of the malts of the period. The hops are English Kent Goldings which would have been among the more commonly available at that time. "A very nice malty brew to celebrate what Ben Franklin might have drank back in the day. I was a nice dark amber color with a nice thin head. Very malty with just a touch of bitterness at the end. Reminded me a lot of Alaskan Amber. A really good brew to raise a toast to BF's 300th birthday!"

"I was really excited to try this one because I'm both a beer and history nerd. Combine them together, and I'm excited! Pours a clear brown/amber with a thin head. Flavor is very malty, but it has a nice hop finish to it. Sweeter than other brown ales that I've had, but still really good. Get it while you can!"
