"Chestnut brown pour with one finger head and some nice lacing. The aroma was winelike with dark fruit. Nice notes of caramel squares, fruit, a touch of buttery diacetyl and a bit of an acidic finish. I really liked this. Good example of style."

"Aroma is sweet and malty with some dark fruity overtones like dark plums as well as some chalky, chocolatey overtones with maybe some faint smoky overtones. Appearance is a rich, mahogany to reddish amber in color when held to the light with a medium-sized head on top that is light-tan in color and leaves lacing on the glass. The mouthfeel is full-bodied and robust and very tasty and much better than the most recent old ale I had before this one (Samuel Adams Long Shot Old Ale) and is very complex on the malt bill and very smooth with a palate that is wet-like and thick. The flavor is of dark fruits like plums and figs with overtones of smokey chocolate as well as some coffeeish characteristics in the aftertaste with a finish that is reminiscent of a weizenbock to some extent. Overall, great representation of the style and one of the best I have had to date and is similar to the classic Old Peculiar; recommended brew here for sure... "

"Nice toasted malt, strong malt content with some rich dark fruits and a nice alcohol presence. Wonderful Old Ale. Syrupy aroma heavy on the sweet malts and noticeable alcohol. Dense amber pour creamy head and some wicked lacing. Filling mouthfeel with a nice sweet finish. Flavor is grand, nutty and toasted flavors along with a grainy sweetness and some light bitter hops. Kudos to Scotland for this hearty beast."

"Translucent but dark amber-red coloring. Lemony aroma with a sweetness that increases over time. Initially, the flavor is a juxtaposition of mildly bitter hops rounded out by subtle malt, and the balance lingers then slightly sweetens. Hints of acidic alcohol. Drinkability improves as it warms; the carbonation bites when it's too cold. Light enough to be good with a meal, and not very warming. Overall, a good ale."
