"Sampled on draught at the brewpub on a quiet Sunday evening.
My third and last pint of the evening, an evening where I had a basic-but-not-without-flaws American Pale Ale, and dull-by-the-numbers American Golden Ale, and the this one.
{Sigh} When will adventurous brewers (professional or otherwise) do their homework, when it comes to making big-ass beers? Yes, doubling the malt-bill will indeed end up making a bigger-than-average beer. But what about the hops? Ah, there's the kicker, with this beer especially.
In a word, this is just too sweet. The hops in the beer just don't do their part in trying to give this beer any sort of balance. In fact, I'm surprised that I found it as drinkable as I did in light of the much-too-light hop-bill.
I really wanted to like this, since I can imagine it's not a cheap beer for the brewpub to make. But even though I can give the brewmaster an "A" for effort, I think the unbalanced end-result only warrants a "C+" in the end....
