Once inspired by the spires over historic Frederick, Blue Ridge Steeple Stout was first brewed in celebration of St. Patrick's Day, 1995. An award-winning, full-bodied beer, Steeple Stout contains over 75 pounds of American grain per barrel - barley malts, roasted barley and rye - with Pacific Northwest hops, yeast and water.

"Poured a dark brown color with brown (not red) edges. The head was initially decent, settled, but provided ok lacing. The aroma was of roasted and chocolate malts. The flavor was the same, roasted coffee with some chocolate. Finished with a sweetness and some chocolate. The mouthfeel was creamy and thick, much like a sweet stout rather than a dry stout, but who am I to change that? As doulos said, very good for the price. However, I must personally say that this one gets lost in the "pretty good" versions of the style (not excellent, just pretty nice)."

"Beer poured dark color with next to no head and lacing. Aroma of roasted malts. Taste was rich and full...roasty, sweet and even a nice, slightly bitter finish. Well done, esp. for the money."
