This unique ale begins its life as a powerful and richly sweet stout to which Michigan tart cherries are added. The resulting black brew is complex, sweet and tart with a distinct cherry finish. It will improve with cellaring. Available September - May

"12 oz bottle, batch 8731 (9/15/08). Pours a dark black with a creamy dark brown head that diminishes to a thin film that laces the glass.
The aroma is roasted chocolate malts and coffee with a little DMS. Cherries come out as it warms.
The flavor is a quick touch of roasted chocolate malts that is quickly overwhelmed by tart mouth-puckering cherries. As it warms the flavors blend a little better - more chocolate covered cherries. The mouthfeel is medium to full with creamy carbonation.
Overall, a bit one dimensional with the cherries in the flavor, but fun nonetheless."

"Pours a midnight black body with a small red head. Very fruity smell. The taste is all cherry. It has a bit of a mocha flavor but the bitter cherry taste is overpowering. The flavor is a bit too intense for me."

"Pours a ruby black with a decent tan head and some lacing. Little carbonation. Aromas of ripe and sour cherries with some coffee and chocolate then a bit more sourness and hops. Taste is slight cheery sour with a very small bit of acidity with a rich coffee and light creamy chocolate then some hops bitterness that lingers with the sour cherries."

"Pours out black with a very thin tan head with minimal lacing. Slightly chocolatey aroma. Tastes very strongly of tart cherries (I noticed many other reviewers commented on a lack of cherries, possibly mine is a different batch?) with a coffee aftertaste that leaves you thinking of your standard stout."
