OUD BEERSEL OUDE GEUZE
from Brouwerij Oud Beersel is a classic among Belgian beers. Following spontaneous fermentation in wooden barrels (no yeast or sugar added), young and old lambic are blended; which results in a dry, tart and fruity wine like taste. Oud Beersel Oude Geuze is the white sparkling wine of the beer world.

"Ah, my 1st non-fruited lambic. Strong golden yellow pour, medium pale color. One inch thick true white head that has no intention of leaving. Mad carbonation, this beauty is lively. Funky fruity aroma, fermented peaches and pears with mild banana and some very noticeable tart yeast scents. The mouth feel is sparkling and bubbly at first, but immediately becomes sour. The initial sensations soon vanish into a wonderful dry tartness. Flavor is lightly complex. Fermented musty malt accompanied by tart citrus. Teasingly sweet them bam! A smack of sourness hits you, which is surprisingly crisp. I also picked up on a hint of celery along with many other earthy tastes. Dry, very dry with a nice white wine quality. Wow, this is one unique style for sure. "

"Hazy golden colour, mediumsized white head. Sour fruits and yeast. Acidic footsweat along with sour fruits and acidicness. Flavour is quite the same, and is a very superdry thing. Some slight metallicness showing also, yet it is very wellbalanced. Hardcore thing. "

"Bottle. Poured a murky copper color with a light white head. Strong sour apple aroma. Nice sour apple flavor to it, almost like a sour apple Jolly Rancher. Solid beer indeed. Thanks, Cottrell! "

"Bottle: Poured a cloudy dirty beige color gueuze with a big foamy white head with great retention. Aroma consists of light horse blanket, funky yeast and some light green apple. Taste is sour with a nice funky touch and with a low acidity level, which I did appreciate. Not as overly complex as some other gueuze producers or blenders out there but still very much enjoyable."

"This is one excellent gueuze. After having a sub-par Boon Gueuze, I was more than happy to lounge in the land of Gueuze with this one. An acidic and vinegary nose with a healthy doese of cheesy funk and barnyard. Where the Boon fell well short of impressing me with the nose, this one does it in great style. Appearance is a hazy orange color, nice head with a bunch of carbonation. Flavors were just awesome to drink. Notes of stinky cheese, vinegar, apples, saddle leather, barnyard and dust. Excellent beer to have, but I'd probably warn people if they've never tried a gueuze. This is definitely not for the faint of heart."
