A rare beer style today, it is inky brown with a sweet malt nose and flavor. Excellent body and balance. This style of stout was first shipped from Britain to the Imperial Russian court. 1997 and 2000 Real Ale Festival Gold Medal winner.

"Growler from the brewpub. Poured a dark purplish-brown color with a thick light-brown head. Strong lacing. Nice aroma with a blend of roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate. Flavor is smooth, with a nice malt taste and a coffee-like finish. A very nice offering from Barley's."

"Poured very dark as expected and had a very rich robust nut/coffee flavor that did not disapoint me at all. It simply went down great. I was pleasantly surprised that this brew was a 9.1 % abv, since it did not overwelm me with an alcohol aroma at all. Mouthfeel had a strong robust coffee and slight nutmeg flavor that lasted for a while. This stout was absolutely wonderful with my meal. I'll have it again for sure. "

"This is a nice Imperial with a strong aroma of nuts, coffee, and some hints of grass. It pours dark tan, fairly light overall. It has a nice mouthfeel, with just a slightly bitter aftertaste. A good imperial from one of my favorite places to stop in Columbus for a good beer."
