Earning 97 out of 100 points, this locally brewed stout won the rare platinum medal at the World Beer Championships in Chicago in December 1995. Beating such world class favorites as Guinness, Sierra Nevada, Shipyard's Bluefin and Murphy's Irish Stout, Bar Harbor Brewing's Cadillac Mtn. Stout was the surprise of the competition. Cadillac Mtn. Stout has come in first every year since 1995 and in 1999 was chosen one of the top 10 beers in America. Cadillac has earned the highest scores of any Maine microbrew so far, according to the Beverage Testing Institute.
Perfect with Caesar Salad, Pizza, Curry and Maine Lobster.

"Bottle courtesy of Wickedpete: Poured a deep black color stout with a nice foamy head with good retention and some nice lacing. Aroma of light roasted malt notes with some great black chocolate element. Taste is also dominated by some great roasted notes with some black chocolates notes with what appears to be some lactose. Full creamy body is probably one of the best that I have tasted in ages with a great level of carbonation for the style. I was really impressed by this one and definitely one of the best for this style."

"NorCal tasting June '07 - Thanks to Brian for bringing this. This was an odd beer to put my finger on. It looks really nice with a good nose, but outside of that I sort of wonder what happened. Aroma was a bit metallic, a heavy dose of chocolate malts made me thinking I was in for a treat. Appearance was standard. Deep black, khaki head, beautiful beer. But as soon as it hit my mouth I could tell something was wrong. Overly thin, nearly watery in its consistency. Tasted like fake chocolate, something like Hershey's might throw together. Lightly hopped. It was average drinking, and unless they changed the recipe I don't see how this won a medal. "

"07.08.05 RBSG Dark brown, not quite black, lofty tan head. Plain and dry, some raisin. Some sweet caramel is a surprise. Very nice, not nearly as dry or bitter as expected/hoped."

"Pitch black with a huge, noisy dark tan head. You would have thought with the fizziness of the head that it would have faded quickly, but the fizz subsides eventually and the head sticks around for a while longer. The nose is chocolate, roasty malt, prunes. The flavor is dominated by bitter hops but underneath that are toffee, wood and a hint of milk chocolate. The flavor would be better if they lowered the hops/burnt bitterness and raised the malt profile and complexity but this is still an excellent beer. The mouthfeel is prickly from the high carbonation."

"Wow! After trying this and not being that impressed I come here and find I’ll being going against the grain. Was a totally average beer imo. Dark brown pour with a decent tan head. Nose was roasted malt as usual. Body was a little thin for my tastes. Good full flavored beer but nothing is jumping out and making a statement. I think lackluster may be a little strong but nothing to write home about isnt."
